Commemorating ANZAC Day

Commemorations began on Tuesday 23 April, with our School and Cultural Captains proudly representing OLA at the ANZAC Day Commemoration School’s Service in Brisbane City. Students participated in the laying of wreaths at the Shrine in Anzac Square and later joined other BCE schools for a moving ANZAC Day Liturgy.

On the morning of ANZAC Day, student representatives attended the Ashgrove RSL Sub-Branch ANZAC Day March. This was a moment for our students to stand in solidarity with the local community, including veterans, their families, and many of our neighbouring schools, acknowledging the deep sacrifices made by those who served.

Principal Kate MacArthur reflected on the significance of the day.

"ANZAC Day is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our servicemen and servicewomen,” she said.

“Given our school's close relationship with the Defence community through our participation in the Defence School Mentor Program, and our proximity to the Enoggera Gallipoli Barracks, it is a day of profound collective reflection and gratitude.”

“Our school is committed to honouring this spirit not just on ANZAC Day but throughout the year through our educational programs and community activities.”

“By doing so, we teach our students the values of courage, sacrifice, and teamwork, which are as important in all aspects of life.”
